Atractylodin is a natural polyacetylene compound that inhibits N-acylethanolamine-hydrolyzing acid amidase (NAAA) with an IC50 of 2.81 µM. Blockade of NAAA activity increases levels of anti-inflammatory lipid mediators like palmitoylethanolamide and reduces lipopolysaccharide-induced pro-inflammatory cytokine release. Furthermore, atractylodin suppresses interleukin-6 (IL-6) expression by blocking nucleophosmin-anaplastic lymphoma kinase (NPM-ALK) activation and inhibiting the MAPK signaling pathway. [1][2]

Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
- Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
- Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
- For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
- Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
