Biological Activity

Atpenin A5 is a potent, specific mitochondrial complex II inhibitor and an mKATP channel agonist. By targeting complex II (succinate-ubiquinone oxidoreductase) within the electron transport chain, it disrupts mitochondrial respiration and ATP production. In cardiac tissue models, Atpenin A5 modulates mitochondrial channel dynamics and energy metabolism, conferring cardioprotection against ischemia–reperfusion injury. These selective effects make it a valuable research tool for investigating mitochondrial dysfunction and cellular bioenergetics. [1]

FAQ
Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
