Ossirene (AS101) is a synthetic organotellurium immunomodulator that acts as an inhibitor of interleukin-1β converting enzyme (ICE/caspase-1). By suppressing ICE activity, AS101 inhibits the proteolytic cleavage and maturation of pro-IL-1β into active IL-1β. This downstream reduction in pro-inflammatory cytokine production modulates inflammatory signal transduction, decreases immune cell activation, and exhibits protective anti-inflammatory responses in various cell-based and animal disease models. - Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
- Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
- For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
- Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
