Biological Activity

Aripiprazole lauroxil is an extended-release prodrug of aripiprazole that functions as a dopamine-serotonin system stabilizer. Upon cleavage to its active form, it acts as a partial agonist at dopamine D2 receptors and serotonin 5-HT1A receptors, while potently antagonizing serotonin 5-HT2A receptors. This balanced modulation of dopaminergic and serotonergic signaling pathways regulates neurotransmitter release and neuronal excitability, contributing to antipsychotic phenotypes. [1]

FAQ
Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
