Biological Activity
Arabinose is an endogenous metabolite and natural pentose sugar that functions as a selective inhibitor of intestinal sucrase. By suppressing sucrase activity, arabinose inhibits the breakdown of sucrose into glucose and fructose in the small intestine, thereby attenuating postprandial blood glucose elevation and modulating carbohydrate metabolism pathways. Additionally, it serves as a functional sugar alternative and pharmaceutical excipient for formulation development. [1]
