Apoptosis Activator 2 is a small-molecule inducer of Apaf-1-dependent apoptosis. It promotes the activation of cytochrome c-mediated apoptosome complexes, leading to downstream caspase-3 activation, PARP cleavage, and internucleosomal DNA fragmentation. Through these mitochondrial apoptotic pathways, the compound selectively triggers cell death in transformed cells while demonstrating minimal cytotoxic activity toward non-transformed epithelial cell types.
