Ampiroxicam (CP 65703) is a nonselective cyclooxygenase inhibitor that functions as a prodrug of piroxicam. Upon conversion to piroxicam, it inhibits cyclooxygenase activity and suppresses the biosynthesis of pro-inflammatory prostaglandins from arachidonic acid. This blockade attenuates pro-inflammatory mediator signaling within affected tissues. Consequently, ampiroxicam regulates downstream cascade activity, reducing cellular inflammatory phenotypes and modulating vascular and cellular immune responses associated with inflammation.
