Biological Activity

Amoxicillin sodium is a moderate-spectrum, bacteriolytic β-lactam antibiotic that acts by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis. It binds to and inactivates penicillin-binding proteins located on the inner membrane of bacterial cell walls, thereby blocking transpeptidase-mediated cross-linkage between linear peptidoglycan polymer chains. This disruption impairs cell wall integrity and leads to bacterial cell lysis and death in susceptible Gram-positive and Gram-negative microorganisms.

Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
