Biological Activity

Alogliptin benzoate is a selective dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor that exhibits over 10,000-fold selectivity for DPP-4 over related enzymes DPP-8 and DPP-9. By inhibiting DPP-4 catalytic activity, the compound prevents the rapid degradation of incretin hormones, including glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) and glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP). This enhancement of active incretin signaling stimulates glucose-dependent insulin secretion and suppresses glucagon release to support glycemic regulation. [1]

Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
