Biological Activity
Alogabat is a positive allosteric modulator of the GABAA α5 receptor subunit. By selectively enhancing GABA-evoked inhibitory chloride currents through α5-containing receptor complexes, it potentiates central inhibitory neurotransmission. This positive modulation produces effective antiseizure activity in neural circuits without triggering the cognitive deficits or sedative adverse effects typically associated with non-selective GABAA receptor activation.
