Biological Activity

Alexidine dihydrochloride is a dibiguanide compound that acts as a selective inhibitor of protein tyrosine phosphatase localized to mitochondrion 1 (PTPMT1) with an IC50 of 1.08 μM in vitro. Targeting PTPMT1 alters mitochondrial protein phosphorylation and regulates mitochondrial metabolic pathways. In pancreatic beta-cells, this inhibition enhances glucose-stimulated insulin secretion, highlighting its potential utility in managing metabolic disorders such as type 2 diabetes. [1]

FAQ
Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
