Biological Activity
Agomelatine hydrochloride is a melatonin receptor agonist at MT1 and MT2 receptors, as well as a selective antagonist at native porcine 5-HT2C (pKi 6.4) and cloned human 5-HT2C (pKi 6.2) receptors. Blockade of 5-HT2C receptors enhances frontocortical adrenergic and dopaminergic transmission, downstream promoting monoaminergic pathway signaling and regulation of circadian rhythm phenotypes. [1]

Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
- Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
- Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
- For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
- Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
