Biological Activity

Acriflavine is a small-molecule inhibitor of hypoxia-inducible factor 1 (HIF-1) dimerization. By binding directly to the HIF-1α and HIF-2α subunits, it blocks interaction with HIF-1β, thereby disrupting the transcriptional activation of downstream HIF target genes. This downstream suppression of HIF-mediated angiogenic signaling results in potent inhibition of tumor cell growth, survival, and tumor vascularization.

FAQ
Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
