Acid Yellow 23 (Tartrazine) is a synthetic azo dye and common colorant evaluated for its biochemical and toxicological effects. Research demonstrates that Acid Yellow 23 induces oxidative stress by altering antioxidant enzyme activities and increasing reactive oxygen species (ROS) production, leading to cellular lipid peroxidation. In biological systems, it interacts with carrier proteins such as human serum albumin (HSA) and modulates inflammatory responses and apoptotic signaling pathways. [1]

Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
- Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
- Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
- For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
- Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
