Biological Activity
Acetoacetic acid sodium is an oxidative stress inducer and metabolic signaling molecule. It suppresses the mRNA expression and catalytic activities of key antioxidant enzymes, including superoxide dismutase, catalase, and glutathione peroxidase, leading to elevated malondialdehyde levels. This mechanism alters lipid metabolism by influencing very low density lipoprotein assembly in hepatocytes and plays a role in the pathogenesis of human diabetes. [1]
