Biological Activity

Zolmitriptan is a highly selective serotonin 5-HT1B/1D receptor agonist. Activation of vascular 5-HT1B and neuronal 5-HT1D receptors by zolmitriptan promotes selective cranial blood vessel constriction and inhibits the release of pro-inflammatory neuropeptides from trigeminal sensory nerve terminals. These targeted downstream signaling events effectively suppress neurogenic inflammation, attenuate vasodilation, and block nociceptive signal transmission within the trigeminovascular pathway.

Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
