Biological Activity

Voriconazole is a triazole antifungal agent that inhibits fungal cytochrome P450-dependent 14-alpha-sterol demethylase (CYP51). By blocking CYP51, voriconazole disrupts the conversion of lanosterol to ergosterol, an essential component of the fungal cell membrane. This inhibition leads to ergosterol depletion and the accumulation of toxic methylated sterol intermediates, resulting in severe membrane damage, altered permeability, and inhibition of fungal cell growth. FAQ
Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
