Tanshinone I is a bioactive lipophilic diterpenoid isolated from Salvia miltiorrhiza with potent cytotoxic and anti-inflammatory properties. It inhibits tumor cell proliferation and suppresses TNF-α-induced expression of adhesion molecules, including VCAM-1 and ICAM-1. Downstream, Tanshinone I attenuates cancer cell invasion and migration by downregulating matrix metalloproteinases and inhibiting the NF-κB signaling pathway, ultimately promoting apoptosis across various cancer cell models. Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
- Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
- Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
- For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
- Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
