Sulfamethizole is a sulfonamide antibacterial agent that acts as a competitive inhibitor of bacterial dihydropteroate synthetase (DHPS) by competing with para-aminobenzoic acid (PABA). By blocking DHPS activity, sulfamethizole disrupts the bacterial folate synthesis pathway, thereby preventing the downstream production of purines, pyrimidines, and amino acids required for nucleic acid and protein synthesis. Consequently, this inhibition leads to the suppression of bacterial DNA replication and cell proliferation. [1]

- Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
- Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
- For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
- Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
Pre-aliquoted for Longevity: Solid-state aliquots offer significantly longer shelf life compared to stock solutions, ensuring maximum stability for every use.
