Mechanism and Biochemical Profile

Omeprazole selectively binds to and inhibits the gastric H+/K+-ATPase enzyme system (proton pump) at the secretory surface of gastric parietal cells, thereby blocking the final step of hydrogen ion secretion into the lumen.
