Biological Activity
Nicotinic acid is a water-soluble B-complex vitamin that acts as an agonist of hydroxycarboxylic acid receptor 2 (HCA2/GPR109A). It is converted into the essential coenzymes nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD) and NADP, which support cellular respiration and metabolic signaling pathways. Activation of HCA2 suppresses adipocyte lipolysis and modulates downstream lipid, amino acid, and carbohydrate metabolism to regulate cellular energy homeostasis. [1][2]

Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
- Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
- Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
- For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
- Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).

Pre-aliquoted for Longevity: Solid-state aliquots offer longer shelf life compared to stock solutions.
