Natamycin (Pimaricin) is a macrolide polyene antifungal agent produced by Streptomyces natalensis that specifically binds to ergosterol in fungal cell membranes. This interaction disrupts ergosterol-dependent membrane transport proteins and inhibits endocytosis and membrane fusion without causing membrane permeabilization. Consequently, natamycin impairs fungal membrane function and halts cell growth, exhibiting potent antifungal activity against fungal pathogens such as Aspergillus and Fusarium species.

- Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
- Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
- For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
- Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
Pre-aliquoted for Longevity: Solid-state aliquots offer significantly longer shelf life compared to stock solutions, ensuring maximum stability for every use.
