Granisetron HCl is a potent and selective serotonin 5-HT3 receptor antagonist. By specifically binding to 5-HT3 receptors located on peripheral vagal nerve afferents and central chemoreceptors, it blocks serotonin-mediated neurotransmission without affecting dopamine or muscarinic acetylcholine receptors. This targeted action reduces vagus nerve stimulation and inhibits downstream signaling within central emetic reflex pathways to suppress emetic cascade activation. [1]
