Ergosterol is a primary fungal sterol and a biological precursor (provitamin) to vitamin D2. It serves a crucial structural role in fungal and protozoan cell membranes by regulating membrane fluidity and permeability, analogous to cholesterol in animal cells. Photolysis converts ergosterol into viosterol, which subsequently transforms into ergocalciferol (vitamin D2). Due to its selective presence in fungi and certain protists, ergosterol serves as an essential target for antifungal therapeutics. [1][2]

- Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
- Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
- For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
- Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
Pre-aliquoted for Longevity: Solid-state aliquots offer significantly longer shelf life compared to stock solutions, ensuring maximum stability for every use.
