Biological Activity

Docosanol is a saturated fatty alcohol and antiviral agent that inhibits viral entry by blocking fusion between the herpes simplex virus (HSV) envelope and host plasma membranes. It demonstrates an ED50 offor plaque inhibition and an ED50 offor virus production inhibition. By preventing host-virus membrane fusion, docosanol effectively suppresses downstream viral entry and replication in host cells. [1]
