Biological Activity

Diclofenac sodium is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory compound that acts as a non-selective inhibitor of cyclooxygenase-1 (COX-1) and cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2). By inhibiting COX isoenzymes, Diclofenac blocks the enzymatic conversion of arachidonic acid into prostaglandins, effectively suppressing downstream inflammatory signaling pathways. This reduction in prostaglandin production attenuates inflammatory responses, cellular proliferation, and COX-dependent pain and swelling phenotypes. [1][2]

FAQ
Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
