Biological Activity

Clomipramine HCl is a tricyclic antidepressant that acts as a potent serotonin transporter (SERT) inhibitor (Ki = and also blocks dopamine transporter (DAT, Ki = 3 nM) and norepinephrine transporter (NET, Ki =. It additionally acts as an antagonist at histamine H1 (Ki =, 5-HT2A (Ki =, and muscarinic acetylcholine receptors (Ki = 37 nM). By modulating monoamine neurotransmission, it inhibits 5-HT reuptake (IC50 = and is widely used in research on depression and anxiety. [1]

FAQ
Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
