Biological Activity

Chlorprothixene is a thioxanthene typical antipsychotic that potently targets D2 receptor (Ki 2.96 nM), D3 receptor (Ki 4.56 nM), D1 receptor (Ki 18 nM), D5 receptor (Ki 9 nM), H1 receptor (Ki 3.75 nM), 5-HT6 receptor (Ki 3 nM), 5-HT7 receptor (Ki 5.6 nM), and 5-HT2 receptor (Ki 9.4 nM). By antagonizing central dopamine and serotonin receptors, it blocks G-protein-coupled receptor signaling pathways, leading to suppressed dopaminergic transmission and sedative phenotypes. [1]

FAQ
Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
