Biological Activity

Chloramphenicol palmitate is a broad-spectrum amphenicol antibiotic prodrug that is hydrolyzed to release active chloramphenicol, an inhibitor of bacterial protein synthesis. The active compound reversibly binds to the 50S ribosomal subunit at the peptidyl transferase center, blocking peptide bond formation during translation. This inhibition disrupts protein elongation, demonstrating broad antibacterial activity against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, including anaerobic organisms. [1]
