Biological Activity

Ceftiofur HCl is a broad-spectrum cephalosporin antibiotic that targets bacterial cell wall synthesis. It exhibits potent antibacterial activity against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, including beta-lactamase-producing strains. By inhibiting bacterial peptidoglycan cross-linking, ceftiofur disrupts cell wall integrity, leading to bacterial cell lysis. In preclinical infection models, ceftiofur demonstrates robust therapeutic efficacy against systemic bacterial pathogens, including Escherichia coli, Pasteurella multocida, and Staphylococcus aureus.[1]

FAQ
Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
