Cefdinir is a semi-synthetic, broad-spectrum third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic that acts by targeting penicillin-binding proteins. By binding to these essential enzymes, it inhibits the final transpeptidation step of peptidoglycan synthesis required for bacterial cell wall construction. This disruption of cell wall integrity triggers osmotic instability, resulting in bacterial cell lysis and cell death across various Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacterial strains.
