Biological Activity

9-Aminoacridine (Aminacrine) is a fluorescent acridine derivative that acts as a DNA intercalating agent and dual modulator of p53 and NF-kB signaling pathways. It induces p53-dependent transcriptional activation while simultaneously inhibiting NF-kB-mediated gene expression. These downstream effects lead to suppression of pro-survival signaling, cell cycle arrest, and the induction of apoptosis in various cancer cell lines. [1]

FAQ
Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
