Biological Activity

8-Cyclopentyl-1,3-dimethylxanthine is a selective adenosine A1 receptor antagonist that targets adenosine A1 and A2 receptors with marked selectivity for the A1 subtype. By blocking adenosine A1 receptors, it inhibits G protein-coupled receptor signaling, leading to modulated adenylate cyclase activity and altered cyclic AMP (cAMP) levels. This inhibition influences neurotransmitter release, renal function, and cardiac electrophysiology. [1][2]

FAQ
Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
