Biological Activity

6-Mercaptopurine (6-MP) Monohydrate is a purine antimetabolite and immunosuppressive agent that inhibits de novo purine nucleotide synthesis. Upon metabolic conversion into thioinosine monophosphate and related thiopurine nucleotides, it suppresses purine biosynthesis and incorporates into nucleic acids, disrupting DNA and RNA function. Additionally, 6-mercaptopurine inhibits Rac1 activation in lymphocytes, leading to suppressed cell proliferation and induced apoptosis in immune and leukemic cells. [1]

FAQ
Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
