Biological Activity

6-Bromo-2-hydroxy-3-methoxybenzaldehyde is a bromobenzaldehyde derivative that acts as a potent inhibitor of inositol-requiring enzyme 1α (IRE1α). Targeting IRE1α selectively impairs its endoribonuclease activity and prevents downstream XBP1 mRNA splicing within the unfolded protein response (UPR) pathway. This inhibition attenuates adaptive endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress signaling, ultimately suppressing cell survival and inducing apoptosis in stressed cell populations. [1]

FAQ
Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
