Biological Activity

5-Methyltetrahydrofolate (5-MTHF) is the biologically active form of folic acid and an essential micronutrient involved in one-carbon metabolism. It enhances endothelial function by stimulating endothelin-1 (ET-1) production in low-density lipoprotein (LDL)-treated endothelial cells, mediated by specific 5-MTHF-LDL interactions and antioxidant properties. Through these pathways, 5-MTHF helps reduce lipid peroxidation and regulate vascular tone to support cardiovascular health. [1]

FAQ
Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
