Biological Activity
5-Methoxytryptamine is a tryptamine derivative that acts as a non-selective full agonist across serotonin receptor subtypes, including 5-HT1, 5-HT2, 5-HT4, 5-HT6, and 5-HT7 receptors. Receptor activation modulates G protein-coupled receptor pathways, driving downstream intracellular events such as cAMP accumulation and calcium mobilization. These physiological processes regulate serotonergic neurotransmission, vascular tone, and central nervous system neuronal signaling dynamics. [1]

Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
- Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
- Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
- For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
- Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
