5-Iodotubercidin is a potent nucleoside analogue and inhibitor of adenosine kinase, while also displaying inhibitory activity against nucleoside transporters, CK1, CK2, insulin receptor tyrosine kinase, phosphorylase kinase, PKA, and PKC. By blocking adenosine kinase, 5-Iodotubercidin prevents adenosine phosphorylation, leading to elevated extracellular adenosine levels and modulation of purinergic signaling pathways. This accumulation of adenosine subsequently mediates downstream pharmacological effects, including anti-inflammatory and neuroprotective phenotypes in biological models. [1][2]
