Biological Activity

5-Bromoindole is a halogenated indole derivative that acts as a synthetic building block and a potential inhibitor of glycogen synthase kinase 3 (GSK-3). Modulation of GSK-3 activity influences downstream signaling cascades, including the Wnt/β-catenin pathway and tau protein phosphorylation, affecting processes such as cell proliferation, neural development, and glycogen metabolism. As a chemical intermediate, it serves as a core scaffold for synthesizing complex bioactive heterocyclic compounds and targeted kinase inhibitors.

FAQ
Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
