5-BDBD is a potent and selective antagonist of the purinergic P2X4 receptor (P2X4R). By blocking P2X4R-mediated ion currents and intracellular calcium influx, 5-BDBD modulates purinergic signaling pathways involved in microglial activation and neuroinflammation. Inhibition of P2X4R function leads to suppressed proinflammatory cytokine production and attenuated cellular hypersensitivity in models of neuroinflammatory and neuropathic conditions.

Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
- Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
- Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
- For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
- Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
