Biological Activity

4-Amino-5-imidazolecarboxamide is an imidazole derivative and key metabolic fragment, serving as a primary metabolite of the alkylating antineoplastic agents dacarbazine and 5-(3,3-bis(2-chloroethyl)-1-triazenyl)imidazole-4-carboxamide. It acts as an intermediate in purine nucleotide biosynthesis, functioning as a precursor for nucleoside and nucleotide assembly. By participating in purine salvage pathways, it modulates cellular nucleotide pool dynamics and nucleic acid synthesis in cancer cells. [1][2]

FAQ
Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
