Biological Activity

4',5-Dihydroxyflavone is a flavonoid derivative that acts as an inhibitor of soybean lipoxygenase-1 (LOX-1) and yeast α-glucosidase. By targeting LOX-1, it modulates fatty acid oxidation and lipid peroxidation pathways, while inhibition of α-glucosidase blocks the cleavage of glycosidic bonds in complex carbohydrates. These combined actions modulate cellular metabolic flux and lipid mediator signaling, leading to suppressed enzymatic carbohydrate breakdown and reduced lipid peroxidation phenotypes. [1]

FAQ
Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
