Biological Activity

3-O-Methylquercetin is a natural flavone isolated from Rhamnus nakaharai that acts as an inhibitor of cyclic AMP (cAMP) and cyclic GMP (cGMP) phosphodiesterases (PDE) and beta-secretase (BACE1). By inhibiting PDE enzymes, it elevates intracellular cAMP and cGMP levels, modulating cyclic nucleotide signaling pathways to induce vascular smooth muscle relaxation and anti-inflammatory responses. Furthermore, BACE1 inhibition attenuates amyloid-beta precursor processing, demonstrating neuroprotective and antiviral biological activities. [1]

FAQ
Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
