Biological Activity

3-Hydroxybutyric acid (BHB) is a key endogenous ketone body metabolite that acts as an endogenous histone deacetylase (HDAC) inhibitor. It functions as a regulatory signaling molecule that suppresses oxidative stress through HDAC inhibition and selectively blocks activation of the NLRP3 inflammasome, downstream inhibiting caspase-1 cleavage and IL-1β secretion to modulate cellular stress responses and inflammatory pathways. Solvent Solubility & Note
FAQ
Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
