Biological Activity

3-Hydroxybenzaldehyde (3-HBA) is a naturally occurring benzaldehyde derivative that acts as a substrate for aldehyde dehydrogenase 2 (ALDH2). It exhibits notable vasculoprotective and antioxidant activities by suppressing reactive oxygen species production and attenuating vascular smooth muscle cell migration and proliferation. Through these cellular pathways, 3-Hydroxybenzaldehyde protects vascular endothelial cells against oxidative stress-induced damage and modulates vascular remodeling phenotypes. [1]

FAQ
Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
