Biological Activity

3-Chloro-L-tyrosine is a halogenated amino acid derivative that serves as a specific biomarker of myeloperoxidase-catalyzed protein oxidation and oxidative stress. Myeloperoxidase utilizes hydrogen peroxide and chloride ions to generate hypochlorous acid, leading to chlorination of tyrosine residues in proteins such as low-density lipoprotein. Accumulation of 3-chlorotyrosine reflects neutrophil activation and oxidative tissue damage during inflammation and vascular pathologies. [1]

FAQ
Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
