Biological Activity
27-Hydroxycholesterol is an endogenous selective estrogen receptor modulator (SERM) that targets estrogen receptors ERα and ERβ, as well as acting as a partial agonist of liver X receptor alpha (LXRα) and LXRβ. Activation of ER and LXR signaling pathways by 27-hydroxycholesterol alters receptor conformation and promotes breast cancer cell proliferation, driving tumor growth and metastasis associated with obesity and hypercholesterolemia.
