2-Pentylfuran is a naturally occurring volatile organic compound and lipid oxidation product that functions as a flavoring agent and oxidative stress biomarker. It is primarily formed through the peroxidation of polyunsaturated fatty acids, such as linoleic acid, during cellular lipid degradation. Additionally, 2-pentylfuran is released as a metabolic volatile byproduct by microorganisms, influencing odor profile characteristics and serving as an indicator of fungal metabolic pathways. [1]

Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
- Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
- Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
- For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
- Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
