Biological Activity

2-NP is a synthetic small molecule that acts as a selective enhancer of STAT1 transcription. By enhancing STAT1-mediated transcriptional activation, 2-NP potentiates the downstream signaling of the interferon-gamma (IFN-γ) pathway. This augmentation leads to enhanced antiproliferative responses in cancer cells, including human breast cancer and fibrosarcoma models, through modulation of STAT1-dependent gene expression. [1][2]

FAQ
Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
