Biological Activity

2,6-Dihydroxybenzoic acid (γ-resorcylic acid) is a phenolic acid derivative that displays low antioxidant capacity and weak free radical scavenging activity in DPPH radical reduction assays. Unlike other dihydroxybenzoic acid isomers, the steric configuration and intramolecular hydrogen bonding of 2,6-dihydroxybenzoic acid limit its electron-donating potential and free radical stabilization. Consequently, it exhibits weak antimicrobial growth inhibition and minimal cytoprotective effects against oxidative stress. [1]

FAQ
Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
